It seems impossible that we’re halfway through August already. Maybe it’s just us, but something about those formative years in education means that, even now, September still gives us that back-to-school feeling. The truth is, September and October can still bring some of the best weather of the year, so while there’s no need to panic that summer is almost over (despite the rain this week), we do have a bank holiday weekend just around the corner - the perfect excuse to squeeze in an extra break as summer starts to wind down.

It's tempting to scour the internet for late summer deals to somewhere far away and exotic, but the UK has a lot of beauty to offer too. Okay, so perhaps the weather isn't always a guarantee, but it's part of the staycation experience to embrace all weathers and just go with it. And you might just find your new favourite part of the world, not far from home. We've given a few suggestions below of some of the Petalon team's favourite places to visit in the UK. Feel free to share any of your own staycation suggestions with us!

Anglesey, North Wales

Endless coastal walks, with every kind of landscape you could possibly imagine. Stunning in the sunshine but just as breathtaking if the clouds start rolling in. Newborough Beach (pictured) is a favourite, with a mountainous backdrop, shallow sea that’s calm like a millpond, leading to white sandy dunes and tall pine trees.

Newborough Beach

New Forest, Hampshire

Untouched wilderness and magical, hidden forest walks. Home to the New Forest National Park, sightings of deer and horses are almost guaranteed - an animal lover’s dream. Don’t forget your walking boots.

Croyde Bay, Devon

One for the surfers, Croyde Bay enjoys some of the best waves in the UK. With welcoming, local pubs a short walk from the sand and a family friendly atmosphere, this is a great coastal escape for those with little ones in tow.

Daymer Bay, Cornwall

Sand dunes, coastal walks, windsurfing, kitesurfing, rock pools, calm water for swimming but big waves just round the corner for surfing - these are just a few reasons why Daymer Bay is a Petalon favourite. And for any fellow dog lovers out there, there’s the added bonus that your four-legged friends are allowed on the beach all year round. 100% Huxley approved.
